MY BLOG .. MY DEN .. MY CHENNAI

Aug 22 is being celebrated as Chennai Day and the praises are pouring in fast and thick about this great, big, bustling metropolis. I don’t need reasons to shower praises on Chennai. I have been born, brought up and live in this city!

My cousin who stays in one of the other metros in India invited me there. I took a weekend off and I visited him. I must confess I had a great time. But, on Sunday evening I just couldn’t wait to catch my flight back home…. back to Chennai. Inspite of all the nightlife and the fun places I visited, nothing beats Chennai, be it its traffic, its people, its food, its vastness, etc. It was a splendid holiday in a great city but at the end of it all... home is where the heart is.. and my heart belongs to Chennai !

Everything about Chennai is perfect in my view... It is a true blend of culture, tradition and a taste of the rapid westernized world!

We've got some beautiful beaches (though i wish we could take care of them better ) .. great South Indian food... nice wide roads ( thanks to ECR / OMR ) .. good hospitals.. great cinema , music and some of the most talented people from all walks of life are from Chennai ! :)

oh yes... how can i forget Chennai women !! :P

Yes, let’s face it, there is a lack of the “happening” places which is abundant in some of the other cities, but we are catching up. Our night life is active but not necessarily HYPER ACTIVE. We are still a city that is conservative and that I think is what makes me fall in love with Chennai !

Many people say Chennai is not the best place for teenagers and people below 30. I couldn’t disagree more. This is a perfect city for anybody who wants to live a balanced life. I can’t think of too many things I don’t get in Chennai that I get somewhere else. It is a very peaceful city and more importantly a safe city. Luckily, we don’t have communal / political riots here.. and i pray to God that not only Chennai , but entire India lives each day in harmony and zest , not in fear and terror !

Now what is it that strikes me about Chennai .... my prompt reply would be the PEOPLE of Chennai.

Let’s celebrate Chennai not only on CHENNAI DAY... but every day ! We need to love and respect our home... so let’s keep the roads clean & green. Respect our culture.. follow the city rules and most importantly , be proud to be a part of the MAKKAL.. a CHENNAIITE !
